American College of Dentists in Ontario honours outstanding dental student

Annually, each regional section of the American College of Dentists (ACD) selects an exceptional senior dental student who has demonstrated scholastic excellence and leadership for the Outstanding Dental Student Award.

This year, the ACD Ontario section conferred the award on Xue Er Hong, MPH’17, Dentistry Class of 2021.Xue Er Hong

At the School, Hong served as past president and executive member of the Student Professionalism and Ethics Association. She has also been active in community outreach as a volunteer for the Dental Outreach Community Service program, as well as the annual Sharing Day Smiles event, aimed at breaking down barriers between the special needs community and dental care providers.

Hong says she felt truly honoured and excited when she first heard news of this award from her mentor, Dr. Paul Romanson, Adjunct Professor and ACD Ontario Vice Chairperson.

“It was a feeling that is beyond words. This award is a recognition of my personal growth, my dedication to SPEA and the dental student community, but also a reflection of the strong, collegial bond that we have formed between Schulich SPEA and ACD Ontario Section”, she shared. “I will continue to elevate the standards of dentistry by improving my professional competencies and by playing an active leadership role in the field. I believe these are the true values behind the award and they direct the future of dentistry.”

Hong will be presented her award in a virtual ceremony on May 27.
