Schulich Dentistry Class of 2020 shares future plans

While dental students were settling into the new routine of online classes in the middle of April, the UWODSS Mentorship Program provided them with a new learning opportunity by organizing the inaugural Post-Grad Plans Q&A Series.

Hosted by the Mentorship Program executive team, the online event series consisted of five live chat sessions where new graduates from the Schulich Dentistry Class of 2020 were invited to give presentations, field questions from current students, and talk about what led them to their post-grad plans. Each session focused on a different path after dental school, with some graduates going directly into practice, some entering general practice residency programs across Canada and the US, and others pursuing specialties in pediatrics, periodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Speakers provided valuable advice and discussed how they chose their respective paths, what they did to prepare and apply for their program or position, and what their next steps will be. Current students had a chance to ask questions and engage in discussions with the speakers, giving them a glimpse of the wide variety of possibilities available to Schulich Dentistry grads.

With a total attendance of over 250 people across the five sessions, Post-Grad Plans was a great success. The Mentorship Program hopes to hold the event again in coming years and continue to foster connections with alumni.

Thank you to all of the 2020 grads who took part and generously gave their time to share their experiences and insights. Drs.
