Amr Alsabbagh, Dentistry Class of 2020, represented Schulich Dentistry at the 2019 CDA/Dentsply Sirona Student Clinician Research Program which took place during the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) Convention in Saskatchewan, SK, from September 12 to 14, 2019.

Amr (supervised by Christina McCord) was awarded this opportunity during Schulich Dentistry’s Annual Research Day by placing in the top three poster presentations. His presentation was ‘Surrogate markers for high risk human papillomavirus infection in oral epithelial dysplasia’

At the 2019 CDA/Dentsply Sirona Student Clinician Research Program, Amr was honoured to win the Pierre Fauchard Academy Canadian Annual Scholarship for “outstanding scholarship and clinical research at the [dentistry] undergraduate level”.

Amr thanked Dr. Christina McCord "She has been a wonderful supervisor and a great mentor, and many thanks goes to her, as well as Drs. Mark Darling and Zia Khan throughout this whole endeavour. Additionally, I am grateful for the Schulich Dentistry Research Program for giving me the opportunity to pursue dental research during the summers after my first and second year. Despite having two extremely busy summers, I can confidently say they were rewarding and I now have a publication to show for it.”

Amr’s paper was published on October 14, 2019, in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology titled: "Surrogate Markers for High Risk Human Papillomavirus Infection in Oral Epithelial Dysplasia: A Comparison of p16, Ki-67 and ProExC."
