Dr. Elsayed is Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases (Department of Medicine), Division of Microbiology (Pathology & Laboratory Medicine), and Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. He holds degrees in Medicine (M.D., Queen's University at Kingston), Public Health-Epidemiology (Harvard University), Healthcare Quality (Queen’s University at Kingston), and Biology (BSc., Western University). He holds certifications in Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, and Medical Microbiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Elsayed is the inaugural and current Director of the Adult Infectious Diseases Residency Training Program at Western University.

Dr. Elsayed is actively involved in patient care activities as a consultant in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. He is the Physician Lead for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at London Health Sciences Centre and the Chair of the Antimicrobial Subcommittee. Dr. Elsayed is the immediate Past Chair of the Ontario Medical Association Section on Infectious Diseases and a current Executive member. 

Dr. Elsayed is also actively involved in medical education and clinical research, and he has been recognized by his peers for his leadership work. In 2018, he received an LHSC/SJHC Professional Staff Association Leadership Award. In 2019, he received a Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry Award of Excellence in Postgraduate Education. Dr. Elsayed has authored over 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts on a wide range of topics in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology. His research interests are in antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial stewardship, infectious diseases epidemiology, and healthcare quality.
