New school year brings new opportunities for growth

The last day of summer is just around the corner and a new school year is upon us bringing with it new opportunities for growth.

As we gather once more for another year at the Schulich Medicine Windsor Campus, I want to wish all the best to the Medicine Class of 2019, many of whom are traveling across the country for electives. To the Medicine Class of 2020, who started clerkship a few months ago, may this new experience help you hone your skills and provide insight into the career paths you want to follow. And to the Medicine Class of 2021, returning to a familiar place with fresh energy, welcome back.

Last and certainly not least, I want to extend a very warm welcome to the first year Medicine Class of 2022. Whether Windsor is home for you, or you have come from elsewhere in Ontario, or Canada, I hope you find your place here, and explore all that Schulich Medicine and the city of Windsor have to offer.

From listening to interesting lunchtime talks, observerships with physicians in the community, or spending time with upper year peers, there are many opportunities to learn about all the different specialties and learn what interests you. Similarly, there are numerous ways to relax, have fun and build relationships, like intramural sports, performing in the class band, or enjoying the (awesome) local music and food.

Medical school is full of ups and downs, and sharing your experiences with your peers can help in dealing with some of the low points. There are also many other resources you can turn to, including the Student Support Team and the Learner Equity & Wellness Office.

In summary, learn lots, have fun and take care of yourself and one another.

I am always available if you have questions, concerns, or just need to talk to someone. I look forward to seeing you around.
