Dr. Jeffrey Alfonsi graduated from the Systems Design Engineering program with a specialty in Biomechanics from the University of Waterloo. During his studies at Waterloo, he was involved in developing medical devices within the oncology and medical imaging domains. Upon graduation, Dr. Alfonsi worked as a US Bond and Swaps Trader for Barclays Capital in New York City as well as the United Kingdom.
After two years in the financial field, he matriculated at the University of Toronto for medical school, where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine. This was followed by a fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at Western University.
Dr. Alfonsi has an interest in the delivery of personalized medicine, and is actively involved in research to develop a model to deliver personalized medicine across Ontario and Canada. Other clinical areas of interest include hypertension, drug-drug interactions, and therapeutic drug monitoring for direct oral anticoagulants.
Finally, Dr. Alfonsi maintains his passion for engineering. He has created multiple mobile health applications, and is currently developing image-processing technologies to identify the nutritional content of foods to better manage chronic diseases. He also works with OTN to scale digital health technologies across Ontario.
