Call for CERI Collaborative Fellowships in Education Research

AIMS

> To support and mentor Schulich faculty to develop education research careers

> To promote new collaborative research partnerships between CERI scientists and Schulich faculty

> To strengthen CERI’s existing research programs by diversifying research contexts

PROCEDURES

> CERI will offer competitive Collaborative Fellowship awards to support Schulich faculty in one of two models:

1) Research fellowship: support for 1 day/week for 2 years, plus research operating funds

- Research fellowships are intended for MD or PhD faculty at Schulich who are not currently enrolled in graduate training in education research

2) Doctoral training fellowship: support for 2 days/week for 2 years, plus research operating funds

- Doctoral training fellowships are intended for faculty at Schulich who are enrolled in PhD level training in education research

> A selection committee of 4 members will conduct selection process and make recommendations to the Director

> Application will include a CV, a 2-page written submission describing how the candidate meets the qualifications, and a letter of support from Department Chair. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed.

> Applications are due by January 30th, 2016, for a fellowship start on September 1st, 2016.

QUALIFICATIONS

> All Schulich faculty, including those in Medicine, Dentistry and the Basic Sciences, are eligible to apply

> Applicants for the Research fellowship will have an advanced degree (MEd, MHPE, PhD) or significant, ongoing involvement in education research demonstrated by their curriculum vitae

> Applicants for the Training fellowship will be enrolled in a relevant doctoral program

> All applicants will demonstrate a well-articulated plan for collaborative partnership with an existing CERI research program

> All applicants will demonstrate a clear plan and leadership support to free up the required time to participate in the fellowship

> All applicants will demonstrate required matching funds from their department

FUNDING MODEL

> CERI will provide 40K annually to be used for fellow salary and research operating start up

> Matching funds of 20K annually (1 day/week Research fellowship) and 40K annually (2 day/week Doctoral Training fellowship) are required from the department or division.

> Provide research mentorship through a primary CERI   Scientist as well as the broader CERI community

> Offer training in data collection and analysis skills, methodological approaches and theoretical development of ideas

> Offer administrative support with procedures such as grant writing and REB applications

> Provide office space

> Provide national and international networking opportunities

> Spend their fellowship day(s) at CERI, in office space provided

> Develop research projects that extend the programmatic efforts of a CERI scientist

> Write operating/research grants

> Prepare abstracts and manuscripts for peer- review submission

> Participate fully in CERI regular scholarly activities, including weekly seminars, visiting professor events and colloquia

> Contribute to CERI MHPE by serving on supervisory committee or lecturing in on-site Units

> Support the fellow by ensuring protected CERI time

> Develop an ongoing role for the fellow as an education researcher/scholar after completion of the fellowship
