Western Undergraduate Summer Research Internship (USRI) Program: Frequently Asked Questions

 

1)  I don’t have a supervisor, can I still apply for this program?
No, students should find a supervisor before applying to the USRI program.  

2)  I found a supervisor from another University, can I apply with them?
No, the supervisor must be a faculty member in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry.

3)  The opportunity says preference will be given to students completing their 3rd year, can I still apply if I’m in a different year?
Yes, you can still apply, but preference will be given to students in 3rd year when evaluating proposals.

4)  I’m a 4th year student, am I eligible to apply for a USRI?
Yes, you can still apply, but preference will be given to students in 3rd year when evaluating proposals.

5)  I’m a student in Medicine/Dentistry at Western, am I eligible to apply for a USRI?
Unfortunately no, this program is targeted for undergraduate students in non-professional programs.

6)  I’m a student, but not in the BMSc or Neuroscience programs, but I have a supervisor from Schulich willing to supervise my project, can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply, although preference will be given to students in 3rd year of the BMSc and Neuroscience programs. The USRI program is also offered through other faculties at Western so you may want to check your eligibility at your home faculty.

7)  Can a student, or faculty member, submit more than one project for the USRI program?
No, the program will only consider one project per student or supervisor. 

8)  I found a supervisor, do both of us need to complete applications?
No, only one application is required, but it is to be completed with information from both student and supervisor.
