Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is the application of computers to solve biological questions. Over the past few years, this field has become one of the fastest growing areas of scientific enquiry. This field is an old branch of science that until recently was starved for data. The completion of several genome sequences, including S. cerevisiae (yeast), D. melanogaster (fly), C. elegans (roundworm), and H. sapiens (human) has completely reversed this problem. Now, bioinformaticians are overloaded with data and are working feverishly to make sense of it.
