Dr. Marjorie Johnson, Professor Emeritus with the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is the team leader for the London section of Team Broken Earth, a non-profit group of Canadian healthcare professionals who provide medical assistance to Haiti’s earthquake victims.

The London team is small, consisting of 3 surgeons (two of whom are former students,) two nurses, an anesthesiologist, a sterilization expert, a representative for Medtronics (who donated the instruments) and Marjorie herself.

On January 26th, 2020 Marjorie’s team packed 18 hockey bags of supplies and headed south. They arrived in Port au Prince, Haiti at noon on a Monday and the surgeons were immediately called to run a clinic, which ran for 3 days. They also operated on 13 patients in the 5 days that they had an operating room, before returning home the following Sunday evening.

Missions like these are heavily funded by donations and The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology was happy to help by contributing $500 towards this mission through an ACB Gives Back Event, Massage for a Cause.

More information can be found on the Team Broken Earth Website and the opportunity to sponsor another Mission by Team London can be made on their donation page.
