I am pleased to announce that Dr. Nica Borradaile has been appointed as the Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2030.

Dr. Borradaile obtained her BSc in Biology from Lakehead University and Western University in 1996, followed by an MSc in Pharmacology and Toxicology in 1998, a PhD in Biochemistry in 2003, and postdoctoral fellowships at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and at Robarts Research Institute.

She joined Western University as a faculty member in 2009 and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. Dr. Borradaile’s federally funded research program focuses on lipid metabolism, and on understanding the biochemical and molecular pathways that control how the liver and blood vessels respond to the exposure to excess fat that occurs in obesity.

Most recently, Dr. Borradaile held a leadership position as Acting Associate Vice-Provost, School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS). She is the recipient of several awards, including the Schulich Excellence in Education Award, Leader – Graduate and the Schulich Excellence in Education Award, Educator – Undergraduate.

Dr. Borradaile is dedicated to advancing excellence in graduate and postdoctoral training and is enthusiastic about professional development programs for trainees that extend beyond the research environment. She envisions fostering collaborations among multiple stakeholders to enhance the graduate and postdoctoral training environment at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
