Announcement: Dr. Mark Awuku appointed as Chair of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons subcommittee

Dr. Mark Awuku, Professor Emeritus and Adjunct Clinical Professor, Paediatrics, has been appointed as the Chair of the Continuing Professional Development Accreditation Committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The Continuing Professional Development Accreditation Committee (CPD-AC) is a subcommittee charged with developing innovative approaches to and establishing relevant standards and processes for the accreditation and re-accreditation of continuing professional development providers.

Dr. Awuku brings significant prior leadership experience to his new role, as well as a passion for medical education. He served a six-year term as Chief of Paediatrics at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare. He also previously served as the Chair of the Continuing Professional Development Committee for the Canadian Paediatric Society.

As an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry – Windsor Campus, Dr. Awuku received 2005 PARO Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award and the Ontario Medical Associate Student Advocate Award in 2008. In 2017, he was honoured with the title of Ontario Pediatrician of the Year.

Dr. Awuku obtained his medical degree at the University of Ghana in 1975, before completing residencies in Paeditratics and Paediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Toronto.
