Award: PEPP Physician Team wins President’s Award for Physician Leadership

Congratulations to the Prevention and Early Intervention Program for Psychoses (PEPP) Physician Team, recipient of the 2019 London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) President’s Award for Physician Leadership.

The PEPP team is comprised of a number of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry faculty, including Drs. Lena Palaniyappan, Julie Richard, Priya Subramanian, Hooman Ganjavi and Laura Powe.

The LHSC President’s Award for Physician Leadership honours physicians who exemplify leadership qualities, act with integrity, demonstrate warmth, inspire confidence and nurture the development of others.

The team is being acknowledged for their dedication to patient care and their passionate pursuit of destigmatizing mental illness.

PEPP is a community-focused mental health program at LHSC that provides individuals in early psychosis with intensive treatment for the first three years. The physician team is regarded for going above and beyond to help their patients, working evenings and weekends or making house calls as needed.

This past year, the team suffered the loss of their colleague Dr. Raj Harricharan who had been with PEPP for more than 25 years. The team rallied in a time of grief to support over 300 of Dr. Harricharan’s patients who were without a psychiatrist, and continue to honour his legacy.
