Social responsibility and community are focuses for Western University’s 2015 medical graduates
For four years, Erica Lee, class president for Western University’s Schulich Medicine Class of 2015, has devoted herself to living her dream of becoming a physician and to fostering mental health and wellness among the Schulich Medicine student community.Lee took Schulich Medicine’s value of social responsibility to heart, developing a series of wellness initiatives, from yoga and meditation to creating a clerkship survival kit that was adopted by the Ontario Medical Students Association (OMSA) and distributed to medical students across the province. For her commitment to student wellness, Lee was recognized as the Ontario Medical Student of the Month by OMSA in May 2014.
Phil Tremblay, Medicine Class of 2015, is living the same value closer to home, making the decision to dedicate himself to the Windsor community. The Windsor-native received the Clerkship Award for Family Medicine in 2014 and will complete his residency in Family Medicine at the Schulich Medicine – Windsor Program. With strong ties to his family and community, Tremblay plans to practice locally.
“Social responsibility is a cornerstone and a driving force across all aspects of the School – from our faculty and students to our researchers,” said Dr. Michael Strong, dean, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. “We are training a generation of citizens who will have a voice in shaping their communities for the better.”
Along with their fellow classmates from Schulich Medicine in London and Windsor, Lee and Tremblay will graduate at a special convocation ceremony on Friday, May 15th at Alumni Hall starting at 9:30 a.m.
