Dr. Amardeep Thind appointed as Director, Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health

Dr. Amardeep Thind has been appointed as Director, Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective from September 1, 2014 to August 31, 2019.

Dr. Thind completed his medical degree in 1987, his Internship in 1988 and his residency training in Otorhinolaryngology in 1991 at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. He also completed his Ph.D. in Health Services Research at the Fielding School of Public Health, University of California, Los Angeles in 1997.

In 2005, Dr. Thind joined the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry as an Assistant Professor and became an Associate Professor in 2007. In 2009, he was the Acting Chair of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and in 2010 he was the Acting Graduate Chair in the Department of Family Medicine. In 2013, Dr. Thind became the Acting Interim Director for the Schulich Interfaculty Program in Public Health.

Dr. Thind’s research interests focus on access to care for vulnerable populations, and program evaluation. He has examined barriers to care for women and children, systems issues, and the economic implications of systems change.

He is the lead author on a chapter on cost-effectiveness of pre-hospital and emergency care, which is forthcoming in the third edition of the Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP-3). Dr. Thind has recently assisted the UK Government’s Department for International Development in completing a client satisfaction survey in Somalia for their Health Consortium Somalia project.

Dr. Thind is the holder of the Canada Research Chair in Health Services Research for 2008-2018.
