Terry Peters is helping to expand Schulich Medicine & Dentistry's international partnerships
Throughout the past 15 years, Terry Peters’ work has focused on user interfaces, human factors and imaging technology to help guide surgeons. This work has recently expanded, as he is helping Schulich Medicine & Dentistry foster an international relationship with researchers in China.Peters, PhD, recently took part in Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Ontario Trade Mission to China, where Western University’s Vice-President (Research), Dr. John Capone, signed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding between Western, Hebei University in Baoding, and the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, which is rated number on in China.
This MOU will allow for collaborative research relating to minimally invasive heart surgery.
Peters explained the second week of the trade mission was spent at Hebei University, where he holds an adjunct appointment.
“I am assisting my Chinese partner, Professor Lixu Gu, to establish a new Biomedical Engineering program,” Peters said. “Gu is a former postdoctoral fellow in my lab at Robarts Research Institute.”
In addition to providing advice and research-related seminars to graduate students, he also delivered 20 hours of lectures on the fundamentals of Medical Imaging. These lectures were recorded in a very professional environment and will be packaged for online access by future students.
