COVID-19 Update - December 20, 2021

Dear Faculty, Staff and Learners,

Further to the communication from Western University on December 17, and subject to future changes in provincial health protocols and/or timing, I am pleased to provide you with additional information concerning the start of the winter semester at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry.

As outlined in the Western communication, all undergraduate classes at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry will revert to online learning commensurate with the University's January 10 start date through to January 31, after which further guidance will be forthcoming.

All medical and dental programs involving residents, clerks, graduate and clinical learners will continue in-person and begin on January 4 as scheduled. Please consult with your specific program supervisor for further information if needed.

All research programs will continue to operate as is, although supervisors are encouraged to monitor occupancy levels and ensure appropriate physical distancing can be safely accommodated.

Faculty and staff that are not required on campus to support our learners or research activities are encouraged to continue to work from home until further notice.

As always, when on campus, all community members are asked to continue to adhere to appropriate health guidelines, including social distancing, the use of three-ply masks and the daily application of the screening tool. We also encourage faculty, staff and learners to schedule a booster vaccine as soon as possible.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide you with timely updates as soon as they are available.

In the meantime, I want to thank you for your continued diligence as health care leaders throughout this pandemic; and wish you and your family the very best this holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

Kindest regards,

John Yoo, MD, FRCS(C), FACS
Dean, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry
