COVID-19 Upate #12 - April 6 - New email for clinical faculty wellness resources, medicine and dentistry wellness chats, CIHR messages regarding funding

This is the 12th update to the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry community.

This update includes information about:

  1. New email address for clinical faculty wellness resources

  2. Medicine and Dentistry student wellness chats

  3. Information from CIHR regarding scholarships, fellowships and spring competition

You can now access all these updates online. You can also continue to access the Travel, Education and Visitor Policy , the COVID-19 Travel Reimbursement Policy and the status of our education and research programs online.

New contact email address for wellness resources for clinical faculty

  • The email address to connect with wellness resources for clinical faculty has been updated. Effective April 6, please use the following email address: faculty.wellbeing@schulich.uwo.ca.
  • The former email address will be discontinued as of Thursday, April 9.

Schulich Medicine and Dentistry student wellness chats and resources

  • All Medicine students are invited to drop in virtually for one-hour sessions weekly on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. The hope is that by chatting and sharing information and strategies we may do ourselves a bit of good. It is meant to be a safe space to talk about how we are managing with all the changes that have come about during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Wellness Chat will occur via Zoom.

  • Chats are currently scheduled for April 8 and 15.
  • All Dentistry students are invited to drop in virtually for one-hour sessions weekly on Thursdays from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. The hope is that by chatting and sharing information and strategies we may remain socially connected while we are physically distant. It is meant to be a safe space to talk about how we are managing with all the changes that have come about during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Wellness Chat will occur via Zoom.

COVID-19 impacts on Scholarship and Fellowship competitions

  • The following message was received from CIHR:
  • CIHR is taking the necessary actions to support and address COVID-19 impacts on our operations. As you are aware, competition timelines will be modified since the priority right now is to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the health and safety of CIHR staff and the research community.
  • The release of the results of the Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s Program in the Research Portal is postponed from April 1 to April 15, 2020.
  • The launch of the 2020 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships is postponed until June 1, 2020. The application deadline is to be confirmed.
  • The release of the results of the CIHR Fellowships competitions are postponed from March 31 to April 24, 2020. Currently, the launch of the CIHR Fellowships is scheduled as planned for summer 2020.
  • The following competition deadlines have not changed at this time:
  • In the coming weeks, timelines for all individual funding opportunities will be modified to reflect the required changes. In the meantime, it can be expected that competition and peer review activities will not take place before July 2020. As more information becomes available, please refer to a specific program or funding opportunity webpage on ResearchNet to learn how COVID-19 may impact Scholarships and Fellowships competition timelines.
  • CIHR continues to monitor the situation closely. For all information related to CIHR’s response to the pandemic, please consult CIHR’s COVID-19 webpage.

Follow-up to CIHR Spring Project Grant competition announcement

  • Following our announcement yesterday, please consult the link below to a message from CIHR President, Dr. Michael Strong, providing a response to the announcement regarding the Spring Project Grant competition and first wave of mitigation steps on the cancellation of the Spring 2020 Project Grant competition.

Please send ALL communication related to the COVID-19 pandemic that you need to be shared with the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry community for faculty, staff, students, learners, trainees and fellows to Jennifer Parraga. The information will be compiled and shared with the School.
