Visiting Elective Student Information

There have been challenges with the new elective portal system which may cause a delay in your receiving a response to your application to Western, please email the Urology Program Administrator at kimberly.nitz@sjhc.london.on.ca if you have any questions or are in need of assistance.

Please refer to this link for Visiting Elective Student information:

VSE, Western University, the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry

The Schulich Visiting Student Electives Program offers four different electives periods from which students may choose to apply.  The application period for part or all of any of the four periods outlined in the above link may close at any time as a result of an electives program reaching capacity.

Once you have received confirmation of your elective from the Visiting Student Electives Program you will receive an email from the Urology Program with details about your upcoming elective.

During your elective, the Resident Library will be your "home base".  You are welcome to leave your lunch and any other belongings inside the Resident Library.  There is a Resident Library at all three hospital sites.

A urology resident will be assigned to you during your elective.  They will ensure you receive broad exposure to all sites, clinics, operating rooms and that you spend time with all urologists.  Although you will be assigned a site for your elective, in order that your elective experience is maximized and that you see all of the subspecialties offered, you can expect to spend time at all three hospital sites during your visit:  three days at St. Joseph's Hospital,  two days at University Hospital and five days at Victoria Hospital.  It is important that as many of the staff as possible meet and have a chance to work with you....especially when it comes time for the CaRMS match process!

Visiting elective students/medical students will NOT be on-call during their time with Urology, but are welcome to round with the residents on weekend days.
