WELCOME TO GENERAL SURGERY
SWOMEN community General Surgery rotations afford residents a unique perspective within the residency training program. Practice outside the Academic Health Centre provides residents exposure to clinical and operative management of cases in a community setting. In the majority of instances, residents will receive one-on-one exposure to a community faculty surgical preceptor.
Rotations fulfill the General Standards of Accreditation with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in a community clinical setting.
Many SWOMEN surgical preceptors are graduates of the University of Western Ontario, members of SWOSA (Southwestern Ontario Surgical Association), and maintain strong academic and professional linkages with the Department of Surgery. As Adjunct Faculty, community preceptors actively participate in program review, evaluation and in some instances, residency selection interviews.
Some of the sites available within the SWOMEN region for community General Surgery rotations are:
- Chatham
- Owen Sound
- St. Thomas
- Stratford
- Woodstock
- Windsor
Sub-specialty rotations are available upon request, please contact the SWOMEN office with any inquiries.
