COMMUNITY INFORMATION
As a community hospital training centre, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital participates in the Southwestern Ontario Medical Education Network providing many training opportunities for clerks and residents.
St. Thomas, Ontario is located in the heart of Southwestern Ontario in beautiful Elgin County. Surrounding St. Thomas are numerous picturesque towns and lakeside villages, each with their own unique charm. The hospital serves the city of St. Thomas, with a population of 36,000 and the County of Elgin with eight municipalities and a total catchment area of 89,000 residents. St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is located 30 minutes from downtown London, 40 minutes from the University of Western Ontario, and 15 minutes from the sandy beaches of Port Stanley, on the shore of Lake Erie.
St. Thomas is a vibrant community with new commercial and residential growth where affordable housing and quality schools are abundant. In the mainly rural Elgin County, there are many conservation areas and trails for hiking and other outdoor sports.
