Orthopaedic research gets funding boost

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Alan Getgood has been awarded a research grant worth nearly $52,000 from the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF), the world's leading tissue bank. MTF anticipates awarding close to $2 million in grants and awards in the 2014 calendar year.

Dr. Getgood is an assistant professor at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and a clinician at LHSC's Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic specializing in knee and shoulder disorders. He received the Peer Review-Junior Investigator Award for a project at the titled "Techniques to Reduce Meniscus Extrusion During Meniscus Allograft Transplantation."

Since 1987, MTF has been at the forefront of research focused on the transplantation of donated human tissue, with approximately $38 million awarded through 2013.
