Call for Applications: Assistant Dean, Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education - April 25 Deadline

The Dean's Office, at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education (BMSUE) to be effective no later than July 1, 2013.

The Assistant Dean, BMSUE will be responsible for such activities as ensuring compliance to all standards governing Undergraduate Program Accreditation, and together with the Vice Dean, Basic Medical Sciences, developing strategic planning, program planning/expansion and evaluation. Internal relations and student and faculty support activities are also a prominent component of the role. He/she will provide ongoing direction and support for the carry-through-to-completion of goals and objectives identified in the BMSUE Strategic Plan and ensure BMSUE portfolio growth is carefully, thoughtfully and thoroughly planned, implemented and validated. The successful candidate will possess a sound understanding of the requirements, guidelines, needs and challenges of every program comprising Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education; support each Undergraduate Program Chair and their teams to allow them to deliver optimum service and support to the students and faculty they serve. He/she will develop effective working relationships with University governing bodies that oversee Undergraduate Education programs at Schulich, including SUPR-U and SCAPA. The incumbent will support the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry's internationalization and globalization initiatives.

Candidates will have demonstrated leadership in Undergraduate Education and a record of education scholarship. Sensitivity and diplomacy in recognizing and responding to issues relevant to undergraduate students is essential. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate, negotiate and facilitate in complex environments.

The successful candidate will report to the Vice Dean, Basic Medical Sciences.

We welcome applicants with either a MD, MD/PhD, PhD or DDS or equivalent with a strong track record; and expertise and vision in basic science research and education. Experience in leadership roles, such as departmental Undergraduate Education Chair, or a member of a departmental leadership team is a requirement. Applicants must hold an academic appointment in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

This role will require a commitment of 0.3 to 0.4 FTE for a 5 year renewable term.
