Drs. Rorabeck and Bourne receive Order of Canada

Congratulations to Dr. Cecil Rorabeck who has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, and to Dr. Robert Bourne who has been named a Member of the Order of Canada for their contributions to the field of orthopaedic medicine. They are Professors Emeriti in Schulich Medicine & Dentistry's Department of Surgery.

The announcement was made June 29th by the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada. His Excellency announced 70 new appointments including three Companions, 25 Officers and 42 Members. Recipients will be invited to accept their insignia at a ceremony to be held at a later date.

Dr Rorabeck was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for advancing the field of orthopaedic medicine, particularly in the area of joint replacement, and for his leadership within his professional community.

Dr. Bourne was named a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to the field of orthopaedic medicine, improving the quality of hip and knee replacement prosthetics for thousands of Canadians.

The Order of Canada, one of our country's highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada's centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation. Over the last 45 years, more than 5 000 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order.
