Dr. Guido Filler re-appointed as Chair/Chief, Department of Paediatrics

Following the approval of the hospital boards and the Provost, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Guido Filler has been re-appointed as Chair/Chief of the Department of Paediatrics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care, London for a second term, effective July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2016.
Dr. Guido Filler graduated from the Hanover Medical School in Germany in 1985. He also completed his residency training in both general paediatrics and paediatric nephrology at Hanover Medical School. He completed a medical doctorate thesis on Immunogenicity of heart and pancreas allografts from bone marrow transplanted chimeric donors and he received the prestigious Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German equivalent to CIHR) postdoctoral two-year fellowship award in 1988, which he completed at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, England. During his training his research focused on renal transplantation, childhood nephrotic syndrome and haemolytic uremic syndrome. In 1996, he completed a Ph.D. in paediatric clinical pharmacology examining immunosuppressive therapy after paediatric renal transplantation. This was a four-year program at the Humboldt University at Berlin.
Dr. Filler is a specialist in paediatrics and paediatric nephrology. He was Acting Head of the Department of Paediatric Nephrology in Berlin, a position he held until July 1999 when he was appointed Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Ottawa and Head of the Division of Nephrology, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. He was appointed as Chair/Chief of the Department of Paediatrics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, London Health Sciences Centre & St. Joseph’s Health Care, London for a 5-year term in September 2006.
Dr. Filler is a prolific researcher with 200 peer-reviewed publications. He is well known for his expertise in academic paediatric nephrology and transplantation. He is a member of many National and International Societies and serves on the editorial boards of many of the prominent paediatric journals.
