The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at The University of Western Ontario is seeking applications for the position of Vice-Dean, Research.

The Vice-Dean, Research will provide strategic vision, oversight, liaison and communication (internal and external), and advocacy for research at Schulich. She/he will foster strong inter-faculty relationships to take advantage of potential synergies such as integrated Canada Research Chairs recruitments, endowed chairs and faculty support, and the development of new graduate opportunities. The candidate will play a critical role in coordinating efforts to achieve common research goals, including the development of a Southwestern Ontario Academic Health Sciences Network with its primary clinical and research partners in London and Southwest Ontario.

Candidates for the Vice-Dean, Research position will have superior knowledge of academic and healthcare research environments locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. She/he will have a strong track record in leadership, innovation, vision and team building, and demonstrated strong administrative and organizational skills. The candidate must have also demonstrated capacity to work with the community to see a vision come to fruition.

Candidates must have an MD and/or a PhD or equivalent or a DDS, with a strong track record and an international reputation in research in their domain and national and international research leadership. MD and DDS candidates must be eligible for licensure to practice in the Province of Ontario.

The candidate must be able to commit to a 0.8-1.0 Full Time Equivalent for a 5 year term, with the option to renew for one additional term. In addition to the five-year, renewable term as Associate Dean, the successful candidate will be appointed in a faculty position at an appropriate rank within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry offers programs leading to MD and DDS degrees, postgraduate medicine (residency), an undergraduate Bachelor of Medical Sciences program, and numerous graduate programs in basic and clinical sciences. The School is home to the Robarts Research Institute and partners with the Lawson Health Research Institute, the research arm of the London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care, London, in the oversight of London, Ontario's health research and training enterprise. Together, these organizations generate over $135 million annually in external research support, and in recent years have produced a number of global firsts in the translation of research to advances in cancer treatment, surgical techniques, and medical imaging. Through its twelve Faculties and Schools, and three Affiliated Colleges, The University of Western Ontario offers more than 60 different degree and diploma programs to over 33,000 full-time equivalent students in graduate, undergraduate and professional studies.
