Discovery Day in Health Sciences - call for volunteers

Friday, April 1, 2011

Discovery Day 2011, an event organized by the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and co-hosted by The University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College, is seeking volunteers for its one-day workshop -- to be held on Friday, May 6 -- that will give secondary school students and teachers the opportunity to explore a variety of career options in medicine and the health sciences.

Help is needed with setup and registration, lunch coordination and guiding students to and from their workshops. The hub of the day is the North Campus Building at Western, with sessions taking place across campus (including Elborn College), at Lawson - St. Joe's, Fanshawe College, and Parkwood Hospital.

Close to 500 students are expected to attend Discovery Day 2011. Participants will hear a keynote lecture, attend interactive workshops and join in discussion with a panel of experts from various science-related fields.

If you are interested in helping out, please complete the Volunteer Form and return to Janice McNorgan at the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame by email (jmcnorgan@cdnmedhall.org) or fax (519-488-2999) by Monday, May 2.

Guides are asked to remain with their groups for the duration of the workshop to act as troubleshooters if necessary. If available to act as a guide, we want to know that you're having fun too - so please specify on the volunteer form sessions you'd be interested in observing (see Workshop Catalogue).

There will be a volunteer orientation meeting on Thursday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m. for those who can attend.

If you have any questions, please contact Janice at: jmcnorgan@cdnmedhall.org or 519-488-2003.
