The Dean’s Office at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry (SSMD), has commenced the selection process for the position of Associate Dean, Equity & Professionalism, effective July 1, 2010.

 

The role of the Associate Dean, Equity & Professionalism includes: 1. Ensuring that equity and diversity issues, including gender issues, are appropriately addressed in the undergraduate & postgraduate curricula and in educational initiatives with graduate students and with basic science and clinical faculty 2. Monitoring processes of student admissions, and recruitment, retention and promotion of faculty to ensure fairness and equity. 3. Providing assistance and guidance to individuals in situations where lapses in professionalism have been identified and assisting departments or other clinical and/or teaching units where repeated concerns with respect to inappropriate interpersonal encounters among individuals and/or a lack of collegiality among constituents have been expressed. 4. Supporting and developing education and research initiatives related to equity and professionalism, including the ways that gender and diversity affect health and health care. 5. Developing policy regarding equity and professionalism that integrates SSMD with affiliated educational, research and health care organizations, particularly the affiliated hospitals in London and Windsor. The Associate Dean will need to remain current in regard to equity policies from the central university, London hospitals, and other related institutions in the country.

The application packages and nominations will be considered by an Advisory Committee, who will carry out interviews of selected applications, and make a recommendation for appointment to the Dean.
