May 14 - Annual Suzanne Bernier Lecture in Skeletal Biology

Wednesday, May 5, 2010

On Friday, May 14, all interested members of the University community are invited to attend the "Suzanne Bernier Lecture in Skeletal Biology" 1:30 PM at University Hospital, Auditorium A.

This lecture series honours the late Dr. Suzanne Bernier (1964 - 2007), who was a member of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and the CIHR Group in Skeletal Development and Remodeling.

This year's lecturer is Dr. Karen Burg from Clemson University in South Carolina. Dr. Burg is a Professor of Bioengineering and Interim Vice Provost for Research & Innovation at Clemson. In 2003, Dr. Burg was named as one of the world's 100 Top Young Innovators by MIT's Technology Review. She is recognized for her contributions to the field of tissue engineering. Dr. Burg also serves as executive editor of "Biomaterials Forum," a publication of the "Society For Biomaterials."

Dr. Burg's presentation, entitled "Engineering Tissue Test Systems to Provide New Insights into Skeletal Biology," will appeal to trainees, staff and faculty from both the basic science and clinical realms of research. The lecture will be followed by a reception. All are welcome to attend.
