Wednesday, January 14, 2009

After four and a half years as Assistant Dean, SWOMEN Rural Regional, Dr. Tom Lacroix is stepping down. He will stay on however as a SWOMEN preceptor and has offered to provide guidance and support to the Rural Regional program. Dr. Lacroix has a paediatrics practice in Sarnia.

Dr. Lacroix was instrumental in the establishment of MedQUEST, a summer camp program for rural/regional high school students interested in health care careers. The program won a gold medal from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) for best community outreach program.

Most recently, Dr. Lacroix led the strategic planning process for SWOMEN Rural Regional that established key initiatives for the next three years as Schulich Medicine & Dentistry continues the expansion of its rural/regional distributed medical education program.

"I would like to express my sincere thanks to Tom for his leadership and accomplishments during his service as Assistant Dean," said Dean Carol Herbert in making the announcement. "His dedication and support of the SWOMEN program has been greatly appreciated and will be missed by program staff, preceptors, and communities throughout Southwestern Ontario."
