The new Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics [CSPT] was launched the last week of July at the IXth World Conference on Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics held in Quebec City. This Society was formed by the merger of the Pharmacological Society of Canada and the Canadian Society of Clinical Pharmacology.
The first two Presidents of the CSPT are members of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. Dr. James Hammond has been elected as the President for 2008-09, and Dr. Richard Kim will become President for 2009-10.
More good news from the World Conference on Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics - Congratulation to three trainees from our Department who won all of the top prizes for oral presentations at the conference. Marianne DeGorter, Dr. Brad Urquhart and Michael Knauer won first, second, and third place, respectively. Marianne is a PhD student in Pharmacology supervised by Drs. Kim and Tirona, Brad is a PDF with Dr. Kim and Michael is a M.Sc. student in Pharmacology supervised by Dr. Tirona. Congratulations also to Dr. Michael Rieder for being awarded the CSCP Senior Scientist Award this year.
