2nd Annual Infection and Immunity Research Forum

Tuesday, September 4, 2007

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at The University of Western Ontario is pleased to announce the Second Annual Infection and Immunity Research Forum. This event will be held on November 16, 2007. This forum will consist of oral and poster presentations from graduate students/post-doctoral fellows on the subject of infection and immunity. Prizes will be awarded to the top presentations.

The Keynote speaker for this year's event will be: Dr. Jonathan Yewdell from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. His research focuses on defining the basic cellular processes involved in the generation of MHC class I peptide ligands and gaining a fundamental understanding of the underlying in vivo cellular events that lead to presentation of viral antigens to CD8+ T cells and the regulation of anti-viral CD8+ T-cell responses. The keynote talk is entitled: "Virus Induced tRNA Misacylation: A New Innate Immune Mechanism?" Dr. Yewdell will also be giving a career talk entitled: "How to Succeed In Science without Really Trying"

The organizing committee would like to invite interested parties to submit abstracts for poster/oral presentations and to register for the event. The deadline for abstract submission is: September 28, 2007. Please visit our website for online submission: http://www.uwo.ca/mni/MNI/IIRF/. Lunch and a reception will be included for all registrants.
