Statistics Canada - Biobank

From May 1 to June 30, 2013, researchers can submit applications to access stored blood, urine and DNA biospecimens from the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). The biospecimens were collected over two cycles, from 2007 to 2009 and 2009 to 2011, and then stored long-term in a biobank at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg for use in future health studies. The CHMS has stored about 150,000 small test tubes of whole blood, blood fractions and urine from about 12,000 consenting survey participants aged 3 to 79. The survey also extracts and stores DNA samples from participants 14 years and older, again only with their consent. The blood, urine and DNA samples are frozen and stored anonymously. The test tubes containing each blood and urine sample are labelled with a barcode. No other information is associated with participant biospecimens. Under the authority of the Statistics Act, biospecimens and data are always kept secure and confidential.

National Operating Committee for Standards in Athletic Equipment

The mission of the NOCSAE is to commission research on and, where feasible, establish standards for athletic equipment. In its efforts in this field, the committee fosters and encourages the dissemination of information on research findings on athletic equipment, injury data, and other closely related areas of inquiry through the organizations represented on the NOCSAE Board of Directors, and other entities in the fields of athletic and sports medicine.
