International Excellence

It was a purple and proud moment at the 2017 Undergraduate Awards when Bachelor of Medical Sciences alumni Flora Jung, BMSc’17, Emaad Mohammad, BMSc’18, and Hunster Yang, BSc’18, received “Highly Commended,” for their papers submitted to the International Undergraduate Awards.


National Recognition

In 2018, Dr. Vladimir Hachinski was among a group of exceptional Canadian health care leaders inducted into The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, and was named a Killam Prize recipient.

Challenge Surpassed

In 2015, the National Hockey League Players’ Association made a donation of
$500,000 to support concussion research at Western University. In doing so, they challenged alumni, athletes, philanthropists and community members to raise the remaining $2.65 million required to advance this critical research.


Eric Lindros Receives Honorary Degree

Hockey great Eric Lindros was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws, honoris causa in recognition of his distinguished career in hockey as well as his steadfast support of concussionrelated research.


A Fitting Recognition

Dr. Peter Fowler, MD’64, was appointed to the Order of Canada for his pioneering contributions to the development
of sport medicine in Canada.


Lorelei Lingard, PhD Awarded the Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education

Lorelei Lingard, PhD, was awarded the 2018 Karolinska Institutet Prize for Research in Medical Education for her overall commitment to research examining the use of language in medicine and medical training.


Accreditation Success

Schulich Dentistry underwent an accreditation process in 2017, receiving approved accreditation status across the four dental education programs –
Doctor of Dental Surgery, Internationally Trained Dentists, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Graduate Orthodontics.

Dr. Paul Woods Named President and CEO of LHSC

Dr. Paul Woods, MD’85, was named President and Chief Executive Officer of London Health Sciences Centre – one of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry’s teaching hospitals.


Happy Anniversary

Three programs marked major milestones in 2018 as they celebrated their anniversaries. The Department of Family Medicine celebrated 50 years. Discovery Week, a unique aspect of the undergraduate medical education program, celebrated 20 years. And the Schulich Medicine – Windsor Campus celebrated 10 years.
