December 22, 2016 On the second last Friday before the Christmas break, WPA hosted a movie & pizza night. Huddled in warm fuzzy blankets and showcasing our ugly Christmas sweaters, we watched Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone with pizza, snacks, and drinks provided by WPA.

October 05, 2016 The Canadian Association of Neuropathologists 56th Annual Meeting was hosted by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, in Niagara-on-the-Lake from 28 September to 1 October 2016. It was a very successful and well-attended event enjoyed by all, drawing accolades for the Department.

August 29, 2016 The Western AFC in Cytopathology received a successful internal review from the Royal College this year. Our advanced training program for Cytopathology was newly accredited by the Royal College in 2014 and we have trained two candidates so far.
August 24, 2016 The Hospital Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine participated in the Schulich Summer School for International Medical Students by providing a two-hour tour of the Anatomical Pathology laboratories at UH during the afternoons of August 8th and 11th.

To an audience of over 400, Dr. Fire presented his groundbreaking work for which he shared the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Craig Mello.

April 04, 2016 In January, an agreement was reached with the Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA). The new agreement was ratified by the GTA Union on January 18 and by Western University’s Board of Governors on January 28. The new agreement is effective as of September 1, 2015.

January 22, 2016 Dr. Martin Duennwald’s lab received a grant from ALS Canada recently to study whether or not RGNEF protects motor neurons against misfolded TDP-43 and FUS, as well as their subsequent toxicity.
