Dr. Khan will be leading a project examining the “role of T-box 2 in maintaining differentiation competence in infantile hemangioma” for the next two years.

Pathologists’ assistants (PAs) are highly trained health professionals who assume major responsibility for the initial examination and dissection of all surgically removed tissues as well as the dissection of bodies during postmortem examinations.

    Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) affects approximately 2.5 per cent of the nearly 2.4 million Canadians with diabetes, or approximately 60,000 people, making it a major cause of adult-onset vision loss. It occurs when blood vessels in the retina of diabetic patients become leaky, resulting in unwanted fluid accumulation in the centre of vision known as the macula. This can lead to blindness if untreated.

Allison Osmond and Fahd Al-Sulfiani who passed their Royal College Exams, as well as, Drs. Chaturika Herath and Amir Salehi who successfully completed their fellowships in Anatomic Pathology. In addition, Dr. Qi Zhang was awarded the Annual Resident Award of Excellence for his contributions to the department. Congratulations to all.

Dr. QingYong Xu, the newly recruited director for the Transplant Immunology Laboratory was introduced and he led the tour of the new facilities.

Lab coats were cast aside as students took to the courts to showcase their athletic prowess. Participants can be seen in action Monday nights from 8:30-11:30pm at the Student Recreation Centre.
