Overview of the Breast and Cross-Sectional Imaging Fellowship

INTRODUCTION

This program offers a 6 month very comprehensive Breast Imaging Fellowship and a 6 month Cross-Sectional Imaging Fellowship.

As a result of our large practice and state of the art technology, we are able to offer our fellows large exposure to all aspects of screening, diagnostic, interventional and research of breast Imaging.

Fellows have exposure to a high volume of digital screening mammograms, digital diagnostic mammograms, diagnostic ultrasounds, breast MRI and interventional procedures. Interventional procedures include: stereotactic core and vacuum assisted biopsies, ultrasound guided interventions, MRI guided vacuum assisted biopsy, preoperative wire and radioactive seed localizations and galactography.

We perform an average of 25,000 screening and diagnostic mammograms, 5000 breast ultrasounds, 1000 breast MRI, 800 ultrasound guided biopsies, 200 stereotaxic biopsies, 50 MRI guided biopsies and 300 wire localizations per year.

There are several Breast Imaging rounds occurring monthly with review of current cases, presentations of new techniques and advances in the field of Breast Imaging.

The Cross-Sectional fellowship includes rotations through ultrasound, CT and MRI with exposure to variety of pathologies. We perform about 10,000 ultrasounds, 10,000 CT and 12,000 MRI a year. These are dedicated to MSK, abdominal and neuro imaging. We offer exposure to CT colonography, rectal MRI and ultrasound guided prostate biopsies.

RESEARCH

We offer on-site clinical research facilities with dedicated research scientists from Robarts and Lawson's Research Institute.

Ongoing research projects include: MRI of the breast, 3T PET MRI, photoacustic breast ultrasound and many other topics. Several projects are done in collaboration with Lawson and Robarts research institutes in London.

The fellow will have half day protected academic time for proven research projects.
