The information below will assist you upon your arrival in London. Please note that most of these requirements cannot be done in advance but you should print this information and be familiar with it before your arrival.
*** Important ***
When you arrive in London, please contact Ms. Kate O'Donnell in the Postgraduate Medical Education Office (519-661-2111 ext. 87675 or Email: kate.odonnell@schulich.uwo.ca). You will need to bring a copy of your work permit to the PGME Office so that it can be sent to the CPSO and recorded in your file. This is a very important requirement so please arrange to do this soon after your arrival. Before you can start your training the PGME Office will need to confirm your educational certificate (License) and Medical Affairs will need to confirm your hospital privileges.

CMPA Information (Canadian Medical Protective Association) – Click Here
CMPA is mandatory and is hospital requirement. Please note that CMPA can be set-up in advance of having your educational certificate. However, it cannot be confirmed until your educational certificate number is provided.
OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) - Click Here for More Information
After three months of training you will be eligible for OHIP coverage. When you bring your Work Permit to the Postgrad Office, you will be given a letter for OHIP.
UHIP Information (University Health Insurance Plan) – Click Here
You should obtain UHIP coverage for you and your family for the first 3 months of training. Please note that if your appointment is less than 3 years, your family will need to be covered by UHIP for the full duration of your appointment. UHIP can be obtained in the Support Services Building at Western University, Room 5100. Please bring a cheque with you as the UHIP office is unable to accept credit cards.

When you bring your work permit to the PGME Office, your username and password will be provided to you for your Online Registration and Email Activation. Both Online Registration and Email Activation must be completed before you can begin your training. Once you activate your Western University e-mail account you can forward it to an alternate e-mail address but is extremely important that you receive the e-mails sent to your Western e-mail account.
Saudi-Sponsored Trainees Only*
Please provide a blank VOID personal cheque to the PGME Office along with a completed Personal Data Form http://www.uwo.ca/humanresources/docandform/forms/personaldata/pdf.pdf. This information will be used to process your monthly living allowance.

Information for Prospective Residents/Fellows Interested in Training at Western University
There are many international trainees in a variety of training programs at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University. We currently have contractual agreements with the following sponsoring agencies:
- The Al Maboseen Medical Centre – Cairo, Egypt
- Bahrain – Military Hospital
- Embassy of the State of Kuwait
- The Embassy of the Republic of Yemen
- The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates
- Hamad Medical Corporation - Qatar
- Oman Medical Specialty Board
- Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia
- Saudi Aramco
- Thailand – the Rural Ears Nose and Throat Foundation
- Jaffna Health Foundation - Sri Lanka
If you are an international Resident or Clinical Fellow from one of the above-mentioned sponsors, your sponsor must submit your application for consideration on your behalf. If a program is interested in your application, they will contact you directly to arrange for an interview. Please note that once approved, it can take approximately 6 months to fully process your application.
International Residents – No sponsor
If you are a Resident from a country not mentioned on the list above, please ask your sponsoring agency to contact the Postgraduate Medical Education Office so that a contract can be signed. All Residents in Ontario must have appropriate funding before they can participate in training. If you are an international trainee we must have a contract in place before your application can be considered.
International Fellows – No sponsor
If you are a Fellow from a country not mentioned in the above list and are interested in a Fellowship at Western University, you will need to contact the program you are interested in directly to see if they have the capacity to accept new trainees. If you are accepted, the program will notify the Postgraduate Office and we will process your application and work permit documentation. Please note that once approved, it can take approximately 6 months to fully process your application.
