Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation is required by many researchers to store and protect valuable, unique genetically modified lines.  By freezing and storing embryos or sperm, the LRTGT provides a backup of resources in case of disaster, and also can ship GM lines to other facilities nationally and internationally. The LRTGT provides resources for investigators to bank embryos or sperm from genetically modified mouse lines through cryopreservation. Cryopreserved embryos are also a cost effective way to maintain lines that are not being used within the laboratory but may be needed at a later date.

Embryos will be stored in 20 embryo aliquots and exist within two different 150 degree celsius freezers to ensure an emergency backup. Depending on the service, the LRTGT will also distribute embryos at the request of the investigator. Distribution of rederivation will be an additional expense.
