The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Windsor Faculty Affairs effective December 1, 2015.
The Assistant Dean, Windsor Faculty Affairs position will address the faculty affairs needs of the Schulich Medicine’s Windsor Campus. Faculty affairs include a variety of issues such as: the development and implementation of policies/programs; faculty appointments; faculty promotions; faculty recruitment and retention; talent management; faculty communications issues and mentorship. Given that the majority of faculty at the Schulich Windsor Campus have hospital appointments with Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) and/or Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH), the Assistant Dean would also need to establish key relationships with hospital leaders and participate on the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) of WRH and the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) of HDGH, and provide regular reports to the key decanal and administrative leaders. The individual would also be involved in dealing with faculty equity and wellness issues in order to support faculty to complete their academic roles as effectively as possible. This position reports directly to the Vice Dean, Hospital and Interfaculty Relations with a dotted line relationship to the Associate Dean, Windsor.
Candidate(s) must exhibit excellent communication skills and have well-developed conflict resolution and negotiation skills. She/he must demonstrate a collaborative leadership style, be a strong team player, and have excellent administrative abilities as well as be sensitive to the spectrum of challenges faced by faculty members including psycho-social and cultural.
The successful candidate must hold: a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of Ontario; active valid certification in either the RCPSC or CFPC; hold an active faculty appointment with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry; and have an understanding of, and will model, the CanMEDS roles.
This position is subject to a mid-term review, and will have an initial 5 year term, normally renewable once. The incumbent will have a defined decanal role consistent with the magnitude of the effort expected.
