The Department of Family Medicine would like to congratulate Dr. Eric Wong, Alice Sy (Meds2015) and Ms. Leslie Boisvert, Project Coordinator - Research, Family Medical Centres, whose poster, "Learning behaviours and preferences of Canadian family medicine residents outside of the clinical setting," presented at the Family Medicine Forum (FMF) in Vancouver, BC, in November 2013, was selected as one of the Top Four Posters at Research Day.

Alice is a promising medical student who won the Victor Johnson Award, awarded to 1st or 2nd year medical students who wish to pursue research interests in Family Medicine.

The study looked to understand the learning behaviors and preferences of family medicine residents in order to help guide the development of an effective academic program that can maximize residents' learning.

It used secondary data analysis of academic learning records of residents enrolled in the family medicine residency training program at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University (submitted as part of training requirements) between July 2008 and May 2012.

The poster has been presented at numerous conferences, including:

  • Association of Medical Education of Europe, Prague, Czech Republic
  • Canadian Conference on Medical Education, Quebec City, April 2013
  • International Conference on Residency Education. Calgary, Alberta September 2013
  • Family Medicine Forum, Vancouver, BC, November 2013 (Selected as one of the Top Four Posters at Research Day)
