Dr. Jane Thornton selected as a participant for the 2017 Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference

Family Medicine resident, Dr. Jane Thornton, has been selected as a participant for the 2017 Governor General's Canadian Leadership Conference (GGCLC). The GGCLC brings together future national Canadian leaders from across the spectrum while in their late-twenties to mid-forties.

The Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference was created to broaden the perspectives of future leaders in business, unions and public administration. Members of the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference come from different regions of Canada, different perspectives and different careers. All members share one thing in common: they are high potential individuals expected to achieve senior leadership positions in their organizations and communities.

Dr. Jane Thornton, MD, PhD holds a wealth of international experience in the field of preventative medicine, specifically focusing on physical activity as both prevention and treatment of chronic disease. She has developed educational resources and medical curricula in Switzerland, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, and Canada and lectures on the topic internationally.

Her sporting highlights include a gold medal for Canada in the Women’s Pair at the 2006 World Rowing Championships, and representing Canada in the Women’s Eight at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The Department of Family Medicine would like to congratulate Dr. Thornton on receiving this honour.
