Jo-Anne Hammond Family Medicine Resident Award

Award: $2,000

Eligibility: PGY2 and PGY3 Grads

Nominated by: Graduating residents (self-nominations accepted), Full Time and Adjunct Faculty

Nomination Requirements:

  • Application submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022
  • One-page statement outlining candidate's career plans to service in the area of intrapartum obstetrics and comprehensive Family Medicine
  • Faculty Letter of Support (optional)

Selected by: The Selection Committee

Criteria:

  • Awarded to a postgraduate trainee completing Year 2 or 3 of a residency in Family Medicine, who plans to provide intrapartum obstetric services while maintaining a comprehensive Family Medicine Practice.
  • This award was established by a generous gift from Dr. Jo-Anne Hammond (MD '84) with the intention to support resident's SOGC membership and conference fees and expenses.

Dr. Frank J. Butson Resident Award in Family Medicine

Award: $1,000

Eligibility: PGY2 Grads

Nominated by: Graduating residents (self-nominations accepted), Full Time and Adjunct Faculty

Nomination Requirements:

  • Application submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022
  • Faculty Letter of Support (optional)

Selected by: The Selection Committee

Criteria:

  • Awarded to a postgraduate trainee completing a residency program in any area of Family Medicine, who has demonstrated a commitment to comprehensive Family Medicine, adhering to Dr. Ian McWhinney's Nine Principles of Family Medicine.
  • This award was established by Mrs. Margery (Nonnie) Butson in memory of her husband, Dr. Frank J. Butson (MD '50).

Lilija and Janis Strauts Award

Award: $2,300

Eligibility: PGY2 Grads

Nominated by: Graduating residents (self-nominations accepted), Full Time and Adjunct Faculty

Criteria:

  • Established by Lilija and Janis Strauts to address the need for rural family physicians and to positively affect the healthcare outcomes in their region (Middlesex, Elgin or Oxford counties).
  • Awarded to a postgraduate family medicine resident planning to practice in a rural region in Middlesex, Elgin or Oxford counties.
  • Based on academic achievement and professional characteristics.

Leonora Sheppard Award in Family Medicine

Award: $20,000 (2 recipients)

Eligibility: PGY2 grads

Nominated by: Graduating residents (self-nominations accepted), Full Time and Adjunct Faculty

Nomination Requirements:

  • Application submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022
  • Faculty Letter of Support (optional)

Selected by: The Selection Committee

Criteria:

  • Awarded to a student in the final year of family medicine residency who intends to practice in Ontario for a minimum of five years and is deemed by the selection committee to be committed to comprehensive community family medicine.
  • Preference will be given for practice in Southwestern Ontario including Kitchener-Waterloo.
  • Based on clinical excellence.
  • Established by a generous donation from Leonora Sheppard through Foundation Western.

CFPC Family Medicine Resident Scholarship

Award: Family Medicine Resident Scholarship at a value of $10,000, and up to $1,500 to attend FMF and receive the award.

Eligibility: PGY2 Grads (self-nominations accepted)

Nominated by: Graduating residents (self-nominations accepted), Full Time and Adjunct Faculty

Nomination Requirements:

  • Application submitted by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022
  • Faculty Letter of Support

 

Selected by: The Selection Committee

Criteria:

  • Awarded to senior family medicine resident (PGY2) who has demonstrated interest and skills in areas such as health care policy or economics, government/media relations, advocacy and representation on behalf of patients, peers or healthcare organizations.
  • The resident will have an interest in further enhancement of leadership skills within organized medicine.
  • The recipient receives a scholarship at a value of $10,000 and up to $1,500 to offset travel and other expenses for attending Family Medicine Forum.
  • The Selection Committee’s chosen winner will be forwarded to the Section of Teachers Council to be considered for the Val Rachlis Leadership in Family Medicine Award, which focuses on the leadership, academic, research, and communication skills of senior family medicine residents.
  • Sponsor: The College of Family Physicians of Canada.

  • Awarded to the resident whose project is judged to be the best research project
