Please join our department as we extend warm congratulations to Emaad Mohammad, undergraduate student in the Honours Specialization Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, on the acceptance of his presentation, "Association of Statin Medication with Exercise Capacity Change in Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Retrospective Cohort Study", for the Canadian Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation (CACPR) conference at the upcoming 2017 Canadian Cardiovascular Congress (CCC) in Vancouver, BC.

Emaad's study explored whether patients participating cardiac rehabilitation and taking statin medication differed in their improvement in cardiovascular fitness from patients not taking statins. Many patients in cardiac rehabilitation programs use statins concurrently and as statins are known to have muscle side effects, investigation into how statin-using patients responded to exercise training compared to their non-statin-using counterparts was merited.

Emaad's project supervisor was Dr. Neville Suskin.
