Are You Interested in an Educational Consultation?
1. Who can consult?
Individuals or groups/committees
2. What types of consultations do we do?
For any scholarship of education activity you are involved in, we are willing to help out regardless of the stage of development or your level of education expertise. Some examples include:
a. Curricular or course innovations (planned or underway). These can include anything from reviewing a journal club, planning a workshop for CME or planning a SWOMEN rotation.
b. Evaluation (program, teacher or student). These can include revising an existing instrument to planning a 360° evaluation.
c. Medical/Dental education research planning (i.e. advice on research in progress at any stage of development)
d. Teaching improvement projects (personal or group). Can include anything from reviewing classroom teaching strategies to teaching on the ward.
Note: These scholarship activities can also be directed at any level of training from Undergrad to continuing education or even patient education.
3. What is the format for consultation?
Full GAMES group consultations take place on a monthly basis (usually on the last Wednesday of each month from 5:00-6:00 P.M.).
a. Contact either Wayne Weston or Mark Goldszmidt to discuss your topic and to review what you hope to get out of the consultation (e.g. ideas about funding or methodology or potential collaborators etc.). We will schedule your consultation for one of the upcoming GAMES meetings.
b. Plan a 20 minute (max) presentation leaving at least 40 minutes for discussion which should address the following areas: What is the background (context) of your topic? What are the questions that you would like addressed by GAMES and indicate if there is any hoped for long term collaboration from members of the group on the project.
c. Please submit a summary of your answers to these questions (or a copy of your presentation) at least a week before the consultation so that we may be better prepared to give feedback and support you in your work.
Note: Private/One-on-one consultations are also available. These too can be related to any form of education scholarship from major projects to personal teaching improvement and we are happy to help out even if all you have is an idea you would like to explore further and need some guidance on where to start.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Mark Goldszmidt and Wayne Weston (Co-Directors)
