The Children's Dental Clinic
The Children's Dental Clinic is located on the first floor of the Dental Sciences Building and is open between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon and 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, by appointment only.
The fee for treatment provided in the clinic is approximately 30-50% lower than the current fee guide suggests. We generally accept children between the ages of 2 and 12 years. Parents must be willing to bring patients into the clinic when their assigned dental student is available, although every effort is made to accommodate busy schedules. Our appointments take about 1.5 hours, so parents/guardians must be prepared for the wait.
We accept all forms of dental insurance, such as Ontario Works or other government assistance programs, including CINOT - a provincially funded program which covers most forms of dental treatment for those children who qualify. The CINOT program makes dental treatment possible for a large number of families who, previously, would have found it to be a difficult financial burden.
We have a thriving orthodontic component to our program, although our patients must fit our teaching criteria. In the event that their problems are too complex for the undergraduate program in our clinic, it is possible for us to refer them to the Western Graduate Orthodontic Clinic. There is, however, a three year waiting list for this and the current fee is $3,350.
Patients who elect to proceed with orthodontic procedures must be under the regular care of either the clinic or a private general dentist. Typical orthodontic treatments in the Children's Dental Clinic would include correction of anterior or posterior crossbite space regaining, habit therapy, space supervision and correction of ectopic eruptions.
