Dickson Kong, Dentistry Class of 2016

Dickson Kong, Class of 2016

Why did you choose to study dentistry?
I chose dentistry because it is a profession that requires both intellect and dexterity to help people.

Why Schulich Dentistry?
I chose Schulich Dentistry because of its strong academic and clinical reputation.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Dentistry?
I like third-year clinic. Being able to apply the skills we've learned in classes to treat people is incredibly rewarding.

What are your career aspirations in dentistry?
Eventually I would like to have my own dental practice.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation.

Jennifer Branch, Dentistry Class of 2018

Jennifer Branch, Class of 2018

Why did you choose to study dentistry?
I did my BMSc at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry and my MBA at Laurier, and I felt like dentistry would be a great profession to join my two interests together.

Why Schulich Dentistry?
I chose the School because I liked the facilities, small class size and overall atmosphere.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Dentistry?
It is hard to pick just one! I think my favourite experience so far was Formal Night. It was a fun night and nice to see everyone dressed up and out of their scrubs!

What are your career aspirations in dentistry?
I'm not sure if I want to specialize yet, so I'm keeping my options open.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The ability to teleport anywhere.

TEAM TWO

Janet Jang, Dentistry Class of 2016

Janet Jang, Class of 2016

Why did you choose to study dentistry?
I wanted a career that combined the skills of a surgeon, the knowledge of a scientist, and the social skills of an entrepreneur.

Why Schulich Dentistry?
I wanted a school that could provide lots of clinical experience, and that offered a patient-centred curriculum.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Dentistry?
I really enjoyed interacting with and learning from faculty members that are compassionate and committed to lifelong learning.

What are your career aspirations in dentistry?
To be as good as the faculty that I’ve learned from, and to provide patient-centred care.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
X-ray vision— could be super useful for dental procedures!

Jason Vincent, Dentistry Class of 2018

Jason Vincent, Class of 2018

Why did you choose to study dentistry?
I wanted a flexible career that I could also balance with family life. Dentistry is also a specialization in medicine that incorporates surgery, radiology, pharmacology into both total and oral health.

Why Schulich Dentistry?
Small class size, friendly professors and an awesome campus.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Dentistry?
The professors treat us as colleagues and the collegiality between Schulich Dentistry students is awesome.

What are your career aspirations in dentistry?
I’m not sure yet, but I definitely want to keep my options open to see where I fit in.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
I would want to be magneto. Controlling metal would make amalgam restorations easier.

TEAM THREE

Michael Coyne, Dentistry Class of 2018

Michael Coyne, Class of 2018

Why did you choose to study dentistry?
Dentistry was one of the only health care professions that allowed me to be a surgeon, an engineer and an artist all in one. It is a unique hands-on profession that allows you to help others in so many ways.

Why Schulich Dentistry?
Schulich Dentistry offered a smaller class size with a large updated adult clinic in an amazing city!

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Dentistry?
As a first year student, I have really enjoyed immersing myself in a new school environment and learning material that is directly applicable to my career. Outside of academia, I've really enjoyed many of our School events, including our recent Dentistry Formal.

What are your career aspirations in dentistry?
At this point, I have not had enough exposure within all the fields of dentistry to fully determine what I would like to do after my four years. However, I always try to keep my options open should I decide to pursue graduate studies down the road.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
As an avid runner, I would love to have 'superhuman' speed - you could see so many places in the world within the blink of an eye!

Eddie Pham, Dentistry Class of 2018

Why did you choose to study dentistry?
I chose dentistry because I wanted to work in a health care field that would not only challenge me on a day-to-day basis, but also allow me to maintain a great deal of autonomy.

Why Schulich Dentistry?
I chose Schulich Dentistry primarily for the reputation of the School, clinical exposure, and location of the campus.

What do you like most about your experience so far at Schulich Dentistry?
I like that we get to go into the clinics fairly early during our education here. Being exposed to patients and shadowing upper years has been extremely fun and educational.

What are your career aspirations in dentistry?
I’d like to eventually own my own dental practice, or work as an oral and maxillofacial radiologist.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Invisibility.
