Message from the Chair/Chief

Critical Care maintains a presence at local, regional, provincial, national and international levels. Our faculty members, who have base specialties in surgery, anaesthesia, emergency medicine and medicine, provide clinical care at London Health Sciences Centre. Academically, we are part of Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. Between the ICUs at the two sites, we provide care to all critically ill patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical, post-cardiac surgery and trauma related conditions. We also support patients outside our ICU walls with the Critical Care Outreach Teams.

Our training program is one of the largest and most established in Canada. Our members are also leaders for the Canadian Critical Care Review course. We have active and growing programs in high fidelity simulation and bedside ultrasound. Our translational research focus is supported by the Centre for Critical Illness Research and active participation in the Canadian Critical Care Trials Group. Medical Education research is supported by the Center for Education and Research Innovation.

All of our activity is guided by a plan that acknowledges our strengths and academic goals. We will focus on excellence in sepsis, resuscitation, acute brain injury and recovery from critical illness. We intend to function as a high reliability organization, to develop further educational programs using simulation and ultrasound, and to be innovative.
