Dunks for Dialysis - Giving back

Dunks for Dialysis

Schulich Medicine students got their game on with the Dunks for Dialysis annual basketball game held at Massey High School on April 1. The community event kicked off the annual fundraising appeal in support of the Care for Kidney’s Foundation. Established by Dr. Al Kadri, the Foundation raises funds for patient-related education and research focused on kidney disease for the Windsor community.

Dr. Kadri has been the organizer of the Dunks event for more than 10 years. “It’s just a great opportunity for the students to get involved in the local community and give back,” he said.

There is a higher rate of kidney disease in the Windsor area. Dr. Kadri explained this is due to the high rate of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and an aging population. It’s why he continues to be motivated to host community events which will help to support the needs of patients. The 2015 campaign raised $71,000 through a series of events, and Dr. Kadri is hoping that the enthusiastic showing at the Dunks event will set the stage for another successful year.
