Message from Yousif Atwan - VP Windsor, Hippocratic Council 2014-15

A special welcome to the Schulich Medicine Class of 2018! This is an exciting time for you, as you embark on a wonderful new journey. Everyone involved in the Windsor Program is excited to work alongside you for the next four years.

Current Year 2 and Year 3 students are returning from summer breaks that entailed diverse experiences. Some Windsor Program students took part in clinical electives locally, nationally, and even internationally. Several students also participated in research efforts across the globe. A special mention goes to the inaugural Schulich – UWindsor Opportunities Research Excellence Program award recipients, who completed their research collaborations locally in Windsor.

The academic year kicked off with Orientation Week for the Class of 2018. Week long events in London included the traditional White Coat Ceremony to mark the beginning of the MD program at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. Extended Orientation Week activities will also be held in Windsor this upcoming weekend. Students will have the opportunity to explore various clinical skills, as well as attend the annual Orientation Week Formal.

There are many other exciting and enriching events planned for students this semester. Later this month, student representatives will be attending the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) Conference in Kingston, as they collaborate with students from other medical schools with the goal of continuing to enhance the student experience at Canadian institutions. In October, most of the first year students will also have the opportunity to attend the Ontario Medical Students’ Weekend held in Hamilton. Later in the semester, students from London will travel to Windsor for the Fall Integration Weekend.

This is an exciting time of year for all students. Meds 2015 have concluded their clerkship and have now begun their national electives, while Meds 2016 are entering their clerkship rotations. Meanwhile, Meds 2017 & 2018 will be continuing their classroom education. Best of luck to all students with their academic and extra-curricular initiatives this year!

Finally, I would like to let students of all years know that I will always be available to listen and discuss your ideas, concerns, or any questions you may have during the year. I will ensure that I am available in person, by email, or by phone to accommodate your schedules.

I’m looking forward to working with all of you and wishing you all continued success this year!

Yousif
